The Netherlands, Zuid Limburg

The most southern part of the Netherlands close to Belgium and Germany has a different landscape than the rest of the country. People love the area for his hills and the walks you can make. “Het Limburgse Heuvelland” is not only know for its natural beauty, but also for its rich cultural history. Due to the high landscape value of the area, the Heuvelland was designated a National Landscape by the government in 2005. Several places have a protected village or cityscape. Numerous churches, castles, farms and water mills are national monuments. Some of the older buildings were built from local Limburg marl. You will also find the typical South Limburg square farms and half-timbered houses. Typical Limburgs are also the road crosses and chapels, which can be found along many roads (sometimes hollow roads).
